LABEL GOLF FOR BIODIVERSITY
Golf & Spa Resort - Provence Côte d'Azur France
HOW THE LABEL WORKS
A NATIONAL INITIATIVE TO PROMOTE BIODIVERSITY
The Golf for Biodiversity programme is a national initiative launched by the French Golf Federation (ffgolf) in partnership with the National Museum of Natural History. Its aim is to support golf courses in improving their knowledge, protection and promotion of the biodiversity present on their sites. Golf courses often occupy large natural areas and can play an essential role in preserving local ecosystems. The ‘Golf for Biodiversity’ programme therefore aims to reconcile the practice of sport with responsible ecological management by integrating biodiversity into the heart of golf course operations.
The process involves several key stages. First, an ecological assessment is carried out to identify the animal and plant species present and the site's natural habitats. Next, an environmental action plan tailored to the specific characteristics of the golf course is put in place to preserve natural environments, promote local flora and fauna, and improve resource management. Subsequently, monitoring and evaluation of the actions are put in place to ensure continuous improvement of practices and better integration of environmental issues. The final stage focuses on raising awareness and training for teams, golfers and the public, to make golf a committed player in nature conservation.

STAFF AWARENESS
An awareness day was led by the director of the CPIE des Îles de Lérins et Pays d’Azur. The aim was to enable staff to understand the challenges of the label and the interactions between biodiversity and professional practices. The morning was devoted to presenting the naturalist study and the associated recommendations. The afternoon was spent on the course, observing habitats, species and management practices, in order to make a concrete link between biodiversity issues and the day-to-day running of the site. The day helped to strengthen the staff's shared understanding and commitment to managing the golf course in a more biodiversity-friendly way.
